UND bests No. 3 UMD
DULUTH (AP) — Carter Rowney scored two goals and assisted on another as North Dakota routed third-ranked Minnesota Duluth 3-1 Friday in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.
Fighting Sioux goalie Aaron Dell turned away 26 shots from the nation’s top offensive team.
Rowney scored at 17:15 of the first period and 18:07 of the second to help North Dakota win its fourth straight game.
Michael Parks netted the final goal for the 16th-ranked Fighting Sioux (16-10-2, 12-9-0), who are 12-3-1 in their last 16 games.
Nebraska-Omaha, Michigan Tech tie, 3-3
HOUGHTON, Mich. (AP) — Nebraska-Omaha goalie John Faulkner came on in relief in the first period and helped the Mavericks earn a 3-3 Western Collegiate Hockey Association tie with Michigan Tech on Friday.
Faulkner came on for UNO (12-11-6, 9-7-5) after Ryan Massa gave up two goals on four shots in the first five minutes of the game. Faulkner made 26 saves, including 12 in the third period.
Jordan Baker’s goal at 16:47 of the second period tied the game for the Huskies (13-13-3, 10-8-3).
Bemidji St. defeats Colorado College, 4-2
BEMIDJI (AP) — Brance Orban had two goals and Aaron McLeod had a goal and an assist to lead Bemidji State to a 4-2 Western Collegiate Hockey Association win over Colorado College on Friday.
Orban scored twice in the Beavers’ three-goal third period.
Colorado College (15-10-2, 12-8-1) led 2-1 after two periods, following goals by Rylan Schwartz and Tim Hall.
McLeod’s tally for Bemidji State (14-12-3, 8-10-3) at 16:27 was the only goal of the first period thanks to the play of goalie Dan Bakala. Bakala made 15 of his 29 saves in the first period.
