Music

Handel's Messiah will be presented in a special concert presented by the Duluth-Superior Symphony Orchestra at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center. Tickets, ranging from $11 to $20, are available by calling 218-733-7579 or 218-727-2121.

The Emmanuel Christmas Musical is set for 7:30 p.m. Dec. 5 at the Fargodome. Featured artists this year include Bob Carlisle, God's Property, Twila Paris, Anointed, Larnelle Harris, Chris Willis, Cindy Morgan and Sheila Walsh. The Fargo-Moorhead Symphony and a 200-voice choir will also perform.

Tim Sparks, guitarist-extraordinaire, will perform a special holiday Grassroots Concert at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 5 at the Nisswa Community Center in Nisswa. Sparks will feature his solo guitar arrangement of Tchaikovsky's "The Nutcracker Suite."

Holiday Voices will be presented by the Heartland Symphony Orchestra at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 6 at the Tornstrom Auditorium in Brainerd and at 2:30 p.m. Dec. 7 at the Charles D. Martin Auditorium in Little Falls.

Tickets can be purchased at The Dispatch and Bridge of Harmony in Brainerd and at Bookin It and the Great River Arts Association in Little Falls.

Handel's Messiah, perhaps the best-loved classical Christmas music of all time, will be performed in Centennial Auditorium in Staples at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 6 and at 2:30 p.m. Dec. 7.

Working together to present this magnificent work will be the Staples Area Men's Chorus, Staples Area Women's Chorus, the Staples Motley High School Choir and Orchestra as well as community instrumentalists.

Lorie Line, nationally acclaimed pianist, will perform with her Pop Chamber Orchestra Dec. 10-14 at the Historic State Theatre in Minneapolis as part of her 1997 Holiday Concert Tour.

Theater

"A Christmas Carol," will be shown at the Guthrie Theater, with support by Dayton's department stores and Xerox of the upper midwest, through Dec. 28.

"Yuletide Revelry- A Hotdish Holiday," Central Lakes College Theatre production, will be presented at 8 p.m. Dec. 10-13 amd at 2 p.m. Dec. 14.

Dance

The Brainerd High School Kixters will join the Just For Kix dancers for a Holiday Kickoff Show at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Brainerd High School gymnasium.

Tickets are $3 for adults, $2 for senior citizens and students and free for children 5 and under. The show is a fundraiser for the high school program.

"The Nutcracker Ballet," presented by The Carlos Stroia Ballet Company, will be shown at 8 p.m. Dec. 5 and 1 p.m. Dec. 6 in the Benedicta Arts Center at the College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph.

Lights

Holiday In Lights and Santa's Village opened Thursday and runs through Dec. 28 at Caterbury Park in Shakopee. A dazzling display lights up Caterbury Park's race track, horse barns and grandstand. This spectacular drive through light show features over 250,000 lights and moving displays. Inside, the grandstand has transformed into Santa's Village with Old St. Nick, Beanie Baby Adventureland, a petting zoo, children's activities and more.

The park is open from 5:30-9:30 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays.

Tickets are $8 per vehicle or $25 per bus. Admission to Santa's Village is free with the light show ticket or $2 per person. Children 17 and under are free.

Holiday Night Lights-A Dazzling Display of Holiday Lights will be held on the grounds of the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in St. Cloud and will feature unique holiday displays including deer that appear to jump over the road and a two story high Santa Claus.

The new central Minnesota tradition began Thursday and runs through Jan. 1 from 6-10 p.m. Admission is $7 per car. Tickets are available at Cub Foods East and West in St. Cloud and the Child Care Choice Inc. offices.

Walk the Wild Lights at the Minnesota Zoo from 5-9 p.m. every Thursday through Sunday beginning today through Dec. 28. Walk the Wild Lights is an outdoor holiday light display visitors can view as they trek across the main lake bridge and around the trail. Visitors can warm up to the sights and sounds in Discovery Bay.

Santa will be in his workshop, holiday shoppers can browse the zoo store and then stop for a snack in the Call of the Wild Restaurant.

Exhibits

Victorian Christmas will be celebrated beginning Dec. 7 at the Crow Wing County Historical Society's annual holiday open house from 1-4 p.m.

The museum exhibit areas will be decorated for the holidays. Refreshments will be served while holiday music is played by a string quartet led by Grant Wilcox.

Special holiday readings for children will be done at 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. Participants will receive a free take home decoration.
