Cass Veterans Memorial was Sons of American Legion project

HACKENSACK, MN
Sixty-three Cass County servicemen killed in action were honored Wednesday at a memorial ceremony in the Hackensack City Park, their names permanently etched into a large stone monument commemorating the fallen heroes.

The monument was a project of the Sons of the American Legion Squadron 202 in Hackensack. Those Cass County servicemen, including those killed during World War I, World War II, Korean War and Vietnam, are:

World War I
George Campbell, Backus; Jack Kimball, Cass Lake; and William C. Spencer, Walker.

World War II
Calvin Barchus, Harold Burrows, Renaldo Granger, James Hayes, Kenneth Kramer, Dwight Maxson Jr., Nels H. Nelson, Denzil C. Noble, Melvin L. Norby, Everett Rice and Stanley Van Eps, all of Backus; Maynard Barsness, Kenneth S. Berge, George Carlson, Warren Goss, Harold Hill, Lee Richmond and Roy Trane, all of Cass Lake; Willard P. Bostrum, Lester Frederick, Vernon Pesheck, Donald F. Farrington, Thaddeus F. Kent and Robert Ray, all of Hackensack; Kay Ivan Fugate and Robert Wyglie, both of Pillager; Richard L. Fraser, Clyde G. Merrill, Harold A. Nelson, Vernon Roske, Theodore Pollock and Walter J. Weiss, all of Pine River; Darrel L. Anderson, William L. Korean Conflict

Vietnam War
