Businesses, safety coalition work together on ‘Buckle Up’ campaign
The Crow Wing County Passenger Safety Coalition announced it will be working in conjunction with area businesses in promoting seat belt safety.
The coalition says the odds for injury in a crash are six-times greater if a motorist is not buckled up. An unbelted motorist may crash into a windshield and slam into and injure other passengers. An unbelted motorist may be ejected from the vehicle and killed when the vehicle rolls over them. “Unfortunately we are still seeing certain age groups over-represented in serious injury and fatal car crashes were occupants are not using seat belts,” Brainerd Police Chief Corky McQuiston said. “Young drivers are one of these age groups.”
Drivers and all passengers must be buckled up or in the correct child restraint. A seat belt fine may be more than $100. Unbelted deaths and injuries cost Minnesota $366 million annually in health care costs, emergency response, lost productivity and more.
In support of law enforcement, area businesses will be posting “Click it or Ticket” flyers, changing their signage to a “Click it or Ticket” advertisement or distributing sticky notes on purchases that state, “Buckle Up. Click it or Ticket.”
“We are extremely excited to be partnering with local businesses in our enforcement effort,” Baxter Police Chief Jim Exsted said in a news release.
The CWCPS thanked the following businesses for partnering with them: Holiday Gas (Excelsior Road and Woida Road locations), Cub Foods, Taco Bell, Super America (Fairview Road, Edgewood Drive and Dellwood Drive locations), Arby’s, Amstar, College Square Gas Station, Wells Fargo Bank, Culver’s, Famous Dave’s, Tumbleroos, Morey’s, Big Stone Therapy, Bremer Bank, Brainerd Savings and Loans, AmericInn, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Mills Ford, Mills Fleet Farm, Assembly of God Church, Super 8 Motel, McDonald’s, Rafferty’s and the Westport Mall.
