Suite Spaces attends Healthcare Design Expo
BAXTER — Karen Kirt, owner of Suite Spaces, with offices in Baxter, recently attended the Healthcare Design Expo in Phoenix.
Kirt attended sessions on how color and art in facilities impact patient healing and health, and Strategic Planning Forums on hospitals and off campus facilities. Suite Spaces provides furnishings for health care, education and business, with locations in Baxter and St. Cloud.
Dollar Stop in Jenkins to host liquidation sale
JENKINS — The Dollar Stop in Jenkins, next to Little Monkey’s children’s shop, will host a going-out-of-business sale Fridays and Saturdays, Nov. 23-24 and Nov. 30-Dec. 1.
The store has been closed but will reopen to liquidate remaining inventory on those four days. All items will be half price. Hours will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. both Fridays and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. both Saturdays.
The store opened in Jenkins in 2005 and had been at its current location on the west side of Highway 371 for the past five years.
Arb gains recognition
The Northland Arboretum was recently awarded the “2012 Outstanding Employer of Older Workers” award regarding their partnership with Experience Works.
The award was to thank the Northland Arboretum and acknowledge their contribution to making our program successful. To realize mature workers represent an untapped labor pool, that retaining older workers helps to hold onto the much needed skills and experience they bring to the work force. Northland Arboretum has been a host agency since the early 2000s. Experience Works reported the driving force behind this partnership is Dale Braddy, executive director. Braddy assisted with 12 Experience Works participants during the years to a variety of duties at the Northland Arboretum. Braddy currently hosts three participants. The assignments have been security, maintenance and recently computer assistance. In May of 2011, Braddy hired one of the participants to their staff. As a host supervisor, Braddy and his staff work to provide training and practical work experience to participants that they might not otherwise receive. Experience Works is a national nonprofit program that assists individuals older than 55 in re-entering the job market.
Holley elected to National Association of Realtors Board
PEQUOT LAKES — Sheila Holley, a resident of Pequot Lakes and a licensed broker with Edina Realty, was recently elected by a committee of her peers to serve on the board of directors of the National Association of Realtors (NAR).
Holley is the only representative of real estate agents from the lakes area to serve on the NAR Board.
A past president of Greater Lakes Association of Realtors, Holley served on the board of directors of Minnesota Association of Realtors (MAR) and the MAR executive committee. Her primary focus of her work with her local Greater Lakes Association of Realtors Board, the Minnesota Association of Realtors and the National Association of Realtors has been professional standards for all real estate agents and continuing education.
Anderholm, Couture invited
to mentoring event
Dr. David Anderholm from Northern Psychiatric Associates and Troy Couture from Essentia Health were invited to participate in a University of Minnesota, American Medical Student Association Pre-Med mentoring dinner at Coffman Memorial Union on the Minneapolis campus.
During the meeting students were given the opportunity to engage practicing physicians in a roundtable discussion of the realities of medical practice.
Lakewood to host Senior Day in Long Prairie
STAPLES — Lakewood Health System will be hosting a Senior Day from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Nov. 27, at their Medical Marketplace and Home Care/Hospice office in Long Prairie, 720 Commerce Road, Suite 2.
There will be a free foot care clinic, which is being funded by the Long Prairie Lions Club. There will also be a free pair of socks with diabetic shoe education, free home care consultations, as well as free senior health packets, refreshments and more. Comfort Keepers In-Home Health Care to participate care improvement initiative
Comfort Keepers continues to work to provide patients/clients with the best and safest care possible and was recently selected to participate in a quality improvement initiative to improve care coordination across settings of care and to reduce avoidable hospital readmissions. The initiative is supported by the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and is led by Stratis Health, in its role as Minnesota’s Medicare Quality Improvement Organization.
As part of the initiative, Stratis Health is convening community-based organizations to come together as teams for learning, sharing, and networking. These teams will have access to quality improvement experts and evidence-based practices. To address the issue of care transitions and avoidable hospital readmissions, they will identify community-specific causes for poor transitions, engage community stakeholders as partners, and implement evidence-based interventions.

U.S. Bank makes it easier for
Minnesotans to ‘Give to the Max’
In October 2010, U.S. Bank partnered with Razoo — the company that powers GiveMN’s robust online donation platform — to process all donations made through Razoo at a discount. The bank also waived select card processing fees.
The discounts allow more donation dollars to make their way to nonprofits and schools. In fact, since the start of U.S. Bank’s relationship with Razoo, nearly $183,000 has been saved — money that has gone to the nonprofits Razoo supports, including GiveMN.
The cost savings is particularly important to GiveMN, which was created to transform philanthropy in Minnesota by growing overall giving and moving more of it online. Through its engaging web platform launched in November 2009, GiveMN helps nonprofit organizations and schools of all sizes reach new donors, increases giving through fun and engaging campaigns and significantly reduces overall fundraising costs.
“The impact of U.S. Bank’s partnership with Razoo is much greater than the cost savings,” said Dana Nelson, executive director of GiveMN. “GiveMN was launched to take online giving to scale in Minnesota. To do that, we needed to offer the lowest, most competitive processing fee. U.S. Bank’s partnership with Razoo has enabled us to do just that.”
Edina Realty Foundation Supports
Lakes Area Charities
The Edina Realty Foundation has contributed over $9,500 to lakes area non-profits in 2011 and in 2012. Contributions were made to the Brainerd Area Salvation Army, food shelves in Crosby, Garrison, Motley, Pine River, Crosslake, Breezy Point, Ideal Township, Jenkins, Nisswa, Pequot Lakes, Onamia, Wadena, and Staples. The Foundation also supports the Mid-Minnesota Women’s Center in Brainerd, the Lakes Area Habitat for Humanity, Kids Against Hunger, and the Pillager Family Council.
Local Edina Realtors raise money throughout the year hosting a variety of fundraising events. The Edina Realty Foundation matches the funds raised by local Edina Realtors for local food shelves, Habitat for Humanity, the Salvation Army and the Mid-Minnesota Women’s Center. Edina Realtors also collect needed clothing and household items for distribution to women and children in the area.
