■ CLC fills two positions

at Staples campus

Central Lakes College announced it has filled two staffing vacancies on its Staples campus.

Betty Street of Pillager was named an education and employment adviser, a post funded by the three-year, multi-campus, U.S. Department of Labor manufacturing training grant. She had been a Staples campus library technician since October 2007.

Suzanne Lund of Staples was named to fill a seasonal, part-time college lab assistant post in the heavy equipment program at Staples. The position is from August to May. She had worked at Trident Seafoods, Motley, and is co-owner of JL Trucking, Excavating, and Grading, Staples.

■ Bontjes named

employee of the month

LITTLE FALLS — MaryBeth Bontjes, Morrison County Public Health, is the Little Falls Area Chamber of Commerce February Employee of the Month.

Bontjes, Morrison County Public Health, has been a public health nurse for the past 14 years. Her employer, Bonnie Paulson praised Bontjes for a positive outlook and client care.


Business after Hours set in Deerwood

DEERWOOD — Cuyuna Lakes Chamber Business after Hours is planned 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at the Deerstand Sportsbar and Grill in Deerwood.

The chamber board set a goal of bringing the membership together in a social setting once a month in 2013.

Bring friends, a guest, a collegue for $2 for appetizers and social time. Need not be a member of the chamber to attend.


■ Special Class’ boiler license prep course set at CLC

The Business and Industry Center at Central Lakes College, Brainerd, Feb. 27 will offer an opportunity to prepare for taking the special class boiler exam.

Instruction will include boiler types, attendance requirements for heating boilers, safety issues and state boiler rules, application paperwork and test procedures. The class fee of $99 includes all materials.

Testing and application fee for licensure will be an additional fee for the student with the Department of Labor and Industry.

Daniel Weber is the instructor.

Boiler exams are given by the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry. All applications and affidavits for boiler operator licensing must be pre-approved and pre-paid 15 calendar-days prior to the exam date.

■ Trenching and excavating course March 1 at CLC

Central Lakes College on Friday, March 1 will host a course covering the OSHA standard in detail for trenching and excavating in confined spaces.

The course from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. will be held in the Business and Industry Center on the Brainerd campus, where completion cards will be provided.

Casey Safety Consultants is providing the instruction. The fee is $99.

■ Bon-Ton Stores donate $110,000 for boys and girls

The Bon-Ton Stores Inc. raised $110,000 through its holiday promotion of teddy bear sales benefiting Boys & Girls Clubs of America. The teddy bears were dressed up in holiday scarfs and retailed for $60. The proceeds raised from the 2012 holiday promotion will be distributed to 142 Boys & Girls Clubs nationwide in communities in which the Bon-Ton operates.

Since 1994, the Boys & Girls Clubs have benefitted from Bon-Ton’s support and has received more than $1 million from this partnership.
