Essentia Health's breast cancer program in Brainerd earns 2014 America's Best Hospitals Award
The Cancer Center at Essentia Health – St. Joseph’s Medical Center, Brainerd, was recognized for its quality patient experience.
The program earned a 2014 America’s Best Hospitals award from WomenCertified Inc., home of the Women’s Choice Awards. The awards honor facilities that are highly rated by women and create an extraordinary patient experience for women and their families.
The Breast Cancer Program was cited for Best Patient Experience in Breast Care. The award is based on patient satisfaction scores from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, clinical excellence and what women say they want from a hospital, including quality physician communications, responsiveness of nurses and support staff, cleanliness and trusted referrals from other women.
Dr. Laura Joque, oncologist/hematologist, at the Cancer Center at Essentia Health – St. Joseph’s Medical Center, said in a news release, the team is committed to caring for cancer patients in the Brainerd lakes area, participating in community events to raise awareness about the importance of cancer screenings and raising money to directly impact patients.
The Cancer Center team includes oncology and hematology physicians and nurse practitioners, specialized surgeons, radiologists and pathologists, dieticians, specialized nurses and therapists, a nurse navigator, social worker, clinical research nurse and many more.
The local Cancer Center team has demonstrated a commitment to delivering the highest level of cancer care to patients and families by having received national accreditation from the American College of Surgeons’ Commission on Cancer and recognized by the National Cancer Institute’s Community Clinical Oncology Program (CCOP).
In addition, the breast cancer program received accreditation from the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers. Most recently, the Cancer Team earned certification from the STAR Program (Survivorship, Training and Rehabilitation).
