Greenhouse 101 workshop to be held at Sprout in Little Falls

LITTLE FALLS—Growers are invited to learn the basics to scale up their vegetable operations with Joan Olson of Prairie Drifter Farm from 5:30-8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 16, in the classroom at Sprout, 609 13th Ave. NE, Door 8, Little Falls.

This workshop is for growers interested in starting their own vegetable transplants for market gardens, CSAs, or wholesale products and will cover: Greenhouse structure, inside set-up, controlling temperature, seed starting, propagation mats, germination chamber, watering, hardening off, recordkeeping, disease and pest prevention, succession planting, using the greenhouse for curing garlic, onions and winter squash, and more. Farmers can learn these important concepts to expand their farm and better meet their customers' needs.

Olson owns Prairie Drifter Farm, a 33-acre certified organic vegetable operation in Litchfield with her husband and two kids. Joan worked on four diversified vegetable operations and managed a small CSA and intern program before beginning her farm in 2010. Currently, Prairie Drifter Farm serves a 125-member CSA as well as several small restaurants, co-ops and food shelves.
