Lighthouse Support Group to meet
BAXTER—The Lighthouse Support Group meeting will be 6:30 p.m. Thursday at 14387 Edgewood Drive, Baxter.
This is a support group that is open to anyone who has a friend or family member struggling with addictions.
Brainerd Garden Club meeting set
The Brainerd Garden Club meeting will be noon Friday at the Northland Arboretum with a catered luncheon.
This is the annual meeting and there will be an election of officers. Program will be botanically inspired beverages presented by JoAnn Weaver. Hostess: Joyce Mikesh.
Elks Lodge No. 615 recipient of two grants
Through the Elks National Foundation's Community Investments Program, the Brainerd Elks Lodge No. 615 was recently awarded two grants totaling $4,500 to help build a stronger community.
Veterans, active military, reservists and family members of non-Elk members will receive a free dinner each Tuesday, September through May, at the local lodge. Meals will consist of a soup or salad, entree and dessert prepared, served and hosted by Elk members. Reservations are required as limited seating is available. To reserve space, call 218-829-2643 before 4 p.m. each Tuesday. This ongoing project, now in its sixth year, is made available through a $2,000 Elks National Foundation Beacon grant.
Youths at The Shop once again will receive hamburgers once or twice each month and youths will prepare and serve a dinner monthly throughout the school year made available through the $2,500 Promise grant, also in its sixth year, from the ENF.
Brainerd Elks members have partnered with the Congregational Church United Church of Christ to assist in preparation of dinners and meals served at Brainerd/Baxter Youth Center. The Youth Center is a safe and drug-free zone where adolescents 14-24 years old are provided opportunities to explore their potential, build relationships and establish positive connections with peers, adults and the community.
Brainerd Elks Lodge breakfast planned
The public is invited to attend the community breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon Sunday, Sept. 3, at the Brainerd Elks Lodge, 215 S. Ninth St., Brainerd.
Order from the menu. All proceeds go to support Elks programs.
GSS-Bethany Auxiliary meeting announced
The GSS-Bethany Auxiliary will meet 10 a.m. Thursday in the Community Room, 804 Wright St., Brainerd.
Special guest is Danielle Erickson from The Woods. Refreshments and door prizes. Members are asked to bring a nonperishable food item for the Blessing Box.
Bethany Gift Shop volunteers meet at 9:30 a.m. in the same room.
Backus American Legion events
A membership and veterans recognition dinner, breakfast and Sunday dance are among activities scheduled at the Backus American Legion through mid-September.
The annual membership and veterans recognition dinner will be Sept. 9, with social time at 5:30 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m. The dinner is complimentary for Legion, Auxiliary and Sons of the Legion Members and their guests. Legion members must have their dues paid or pay them at the door.
The Auxiliary's monthly breakfast will be served from 7:30-11:30 a.m. Sept. 10. Cost: $7 for adults and $4 for children under age 7.
The Frankie Lamb Band returns from 2-5 p.m. Sept. 17, playing classic country, pop, old time and swing.
Brainerd Legion upcoming events
The Post Executive Committee will meet 7 p.m. Tuesday.
The Legion Riders will meet 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Brainerd Area Networking Group will meet noon Thursday.
The special dinner for Friday will be deep-fried shrimp for $11. Walleye is also available for $11. Serving begins at 5 p.m.
Barry to present at Center Morning Club meeting
The Center's Morning Club will meet 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at The Center, 803 Kingwood St., Brainerd.
Presenter will be DeAnn Barry, director of The Center.
There will be coffee and doughnuts available.
Parkinson's Disease Support Group monthly meeting set
BAXTER—The Parkinson's Disease Support Group will meet 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the dining room at Edgewood Vista, 14211 Firewood Drive, Baxter.
A movement disorder specialist from Capistrant Center for Parkinson's Disease will be speaking on mental health. This group has met for 12 years sharing information, support and concerns. Caregivers also welcome.
