DeVaney to speak at Cuyuna Range Women's Club

CROSBY—Jeff DeVaney will be the featured speaker at the Cuyuna Range Women's Club

meeting 1 p.m. Nov. 6 at the Jessie F. Hallett Memorial Library in Crosby.

DeVaney will share anecdotes and insights from his four-year experience as a resident in the Middle East country of Kuwait. DeVaney served as a teacher and administrator in the Brainerd School District for 39 years. Ever the educator, he was excited to embark upon an opportunity to serve as principal of the American Creativity Academy, a private international school in Kuwait,

from 2010-2014.

DeVaney plans to depict an overall picture of what daily life is like in Kuwait. He will share his perspectives through a discussion of both the Kuwaiti educational system and of the people and their customs. DeVaney will also talk about the people who comprise the expat group that live and work in Kuwait.

While living in the Middle East, DeVaney was able to take advantage of Kuwait's central location as he traveled to 28 countries including Turkey, Sri Lanka, Jordan, Lebanon, Bali, India and Tanzania.

Guests are welcome to attend.

Seventh annual Zonta Christmas house event

LAKE SHORE—Zonta Christmas House will be from 5-9 p.m. Nov. 10 and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 11 at a lodge-style home located at 8762 Interlachen Road, Lake Shore.

This Gull Lake home will be decorated for the Christmas holidays by more than 25 local designers and small businesses. Door prizes and discounts at Sherwood Forest available.

Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door.

Trick-or-treating at Good Samaritan Society-Woodland

Trick or Treat at Good Samaritan Society-Woodland, 100 Buffalo Hills Lane, from 5-6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Plan to enter the 100 building entrance and exit at the 200 building.

Deer hunters' dinner planned

HACKENSACK—Hackensack American Legion Auxiliary Unit 202 will be serving a deer hunters' dinner starting at 5 p.m. Friday at the club.

Cost: $10.

Lighthouse Support Group to meet

BAXTER—The Lighthouse Support Group meeting will be 6:30 p.m. Thursday at 14387 Edgewood Drive, Baxter.

This is a faith-based support group for family members and friends dealing with loved ones who are struggling with addiction and is open to the public.

Bethany Auxiliary meeting set

GSS-Bethany Auxiliary will meet 10 a.m. Thursday in the Community Room, 804 Wright St., Brainerd.

Special guest: Paul Welch, Breath of Life. Lunch served. Election of Officers.

Whitetail weekend planned

BACKUS —The Backus American Legion and Auxiliary will host its annual Whitetail Weekend Nov. 3-4 to mark the opening of the firearms deer season.

Activities begin Friday with the Hunters' Pre-Opener Party. The clubrooms open at noon. There will be a Goodies Galore Auxiliary Bake Sale from noon until 6 p.m. — featuring cookies, cakes, breads, rolls, pies and more.

Chili and sloppy Joe sandwiches will be served from 4-9 p.m. in addition to the Legion's regular short-order food and pizza menu. A 10-round, 50-package meat raffle with five chances to win on a $1 ticket begins at 5:30 p.m.

On. Nov. 4, the Auxiliary will host the annual Deer Hunters Dinner from 4-8 p.m., featuring turkey, ham, trimmings and homemade apple pie. It's $10 for adults and $5 for children under 7.

Complimentary cash and customer appreciation drawings will be at 9 p.m. Saturday.

The Center's Morning Club

The Center's Morning Club will meet 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at The Center, 803 Kingwood St., Brainerd.

Presenters will be Roberta and Lily from Guidepoint Pharmacy.

Parkinson's Disease Support Group monthly meeting

BAXTER—The Parkinson's Disease Support Group will meet 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the dining room at Edgewood Vista, 14211 Firewood Drive, Baxter.

They will discuss safety and prevention of injury with Parkinson's. This group has met for 12 years sharing information, support and concerns. Caregivers also welcome.

AITKIN—Lois Club luncheon will meet 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Birchwood Cafe in Aitkin.
