Nisswa Garden Club to meet
NISSWA—The Nisswa Garden Club will meet Thursday, Aug. 23, at the Lutheran Church of the Cross, County Road 13, Nisswa.
Social hour and check-in will begin at noon.
The program entitled "Growing Vegetables with Hydroponics," will be presented by Jeff Dirks of the Horticulture Department with Central Lakes College. Host is Pat Frykholm.
Upcoming programs include "Stump the Panel": Question and Answer session with U of M Extension Master Gardeners on Sept. 27 and "From Acorn to Zucchini" all about squash with Brenda Myers on Oct. 25.

Brainerd Legion upcoming events
On Monday, Aug. 20, the Gambling Oversight Committee will meet at 6 p.m., the Post Membership will meet at 6:30 p.m., and the Auxiliary Membership will meet at 7 p.m.
The special for Friday, Aug. 24, will be Bob Harting's BBQ rib dinner for $11. Walleye dinner is also available for $11. Serving begins at 5 p.m.
Broasted chicken and ribs will be a special offered on Saturday, Aug. 25.
Crow Wing County Genealogy Society meeting set
The Crow Wing County Genealogy Society will meet Thursday, Aug. 23, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Family History Center, 101 Buffalo Hills Lane, Brainerd.
Social hour will be 6-7 p.m. and your chance to use FHC resources with help from Society members.

Grief Support Group to meet Sept. 10-Oct. 22
Adults who are grieving the death of a loved one are welcome and encouraged to participate in the Grief Support Group, which meets Mondays from 3-5 p.m. starting Sept. 10 through Oct. 22 at Essentia Health-St. Joseph's Medical Center.
The Grief Support Group is for adults who have had a relative, friend, or significant person die. Common experiences of those who are living with grief include poor sleep, poor appetite, problems concentrating, and no energy for things that used to be enjoyable. The purpose of this group is to equip each person with the tools and resources to reinvest oneself in life.

Brainerd Area Art Club meeting planned
The Brainerd Area Art Club will meet 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, at the Crossings Art Gallery at 711 Laurel St. in downtown Brainerd.
Rebecca from Canvas Expressions will be on hand to share information about her business. The group welcomes new members and invites artists who are interested in sharing and learning more about their art to join the group.
Chapter DV of PEO to meet
Chapter DV of PEO will meet 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 20, at the home of Mindi Scott.
Linda Youngs will co-host. Reports will be given by Dianne Warmonger and Jane Kipling on the Minnesota Home Fund, Emilie Augustine and Kris McGrath on Star Scholarships. The program will be presented by Diane Eitrheim: "This Is Prague - Did I Bring My Cane?"
Wadena Whirlaways Square Dancers to host a dance
WADENA—The Wadena Whirlaways Square Dancers will be hosting a dance Thursday, Aug. 23, at the VFW in Wadena.
Charley Huhtala is the caller and Donna Stone is the cuer. The theme is "Mexican Fiesta."
Plus dancing begins at 7:30 p.m. and mainstream dancing at 8 p.m.
Bridgerama had its final luncheon at Cragun's Legacy.
Coming in first in overall scores in the group of 36 were JoAnn Sufka and Marlene McArthur. Second were Mary Baker and Mary Leland. Third were Denise Park and Barb Vielma. Heading their groups of 12 were the pairs of Elsie Verdeja with Emily Anderson, JoAnn Sufka with Marlene McArthur and Jennifer Knutsen with Carol Lindahl.

The Focal Point Photography Club's monthly meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 21, at the Northland Arboretum in Brainerd.
The meetings are held on the third Tuesday of every month.

Country School Reunion planned
The annual country school reunion will be 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 8, at the Pleasant Hill Community Church, County Highway 1, southwest of Pequot Lakes, or south of Pine River.
The ladies of the church will provide the noon meal. There will be a $5 charge per person for the meal. Mail reservations along with a check made out to the Pleasant Hill Ladies Group for the number attending times the meal charge amount to: Fred Chamberlain, 3656 48th St. SW, Pine River, MN 56474.
