How low are gas prices in Brainerd? Nearly 20 cents lower than other areas in outstate Minnesota. Prices in Brainerd ranged from $1.05 to $1.09 per gallon, while gas was $1.19 in Aitkin and $1.24 in St. Cloud. In the Twin Cities, gas was as low as 95 cents per gallon.

A revised proposal for the new post office building in Brainerd was approved by the county commissioners. The county will donate land east of the courthouse and pay $5,000 while receiving the old post office building on S. 6th Street. The new post office is expected to cost $550,000.

80 years ago (1937)

Seven new recruits were initiated into the National Guard's local 34th Tank Co. at the monthly social meeting in the armory last night. Commanding officer Capt. E.B. Miller related that the company had scored "excellent" in 21 of 25 categories at summer camp at Camp Ripley.

100 years ago (1917)

Police officers Scott and Nordstrom raided the soft drink parlor on Laurel Street run by George Anderson at 2:00 this morning. They found a quantity of whiskey. Anderson was drunk at the bar and John McGarry, who later died, was unconscious on the floor.
