(Photo) About 150 Whittier Elementary School kindergartners through fifth-graders sing to Holly Street resident Sue Bevans. The students went caroling in the Gregory Park neighborhood on their last day before the Christmas break.
30 years ago (1987)
Thanks to the sharp eyes of a Fort Ripley woman, a 30-year tradition will continue for Ambrose and Lee Thesing of Northeast Brainerd. Someone had stolen several figures from their nativity scene. Mrs. Wayne Finch spotted them in a Baxter ditch, and a radio broadcast alerted the Thesings.
40 years ago (1977)
Two juveniles were arrested by police as they attempted to sell a stolen car to two Brainerd citizens. The two came to police and said they had been approached to buy a "hot" car. Police told them to negotiate the price and arrange a delivery place. When the juveniles showed up with the car they were arrested.

(Photo) These three young men have been big winners for Coach Merv Jensen's Brainerd High School wrestling team thus far. Gene Jordan and Fred Parker are both undefeated and Jack Graham, bothered by an injured arm, has lost just one match.
80 years ago (1937)
A committee of the city council, named to study the proposal for a new utilities building at 5th and Laurel Streets, has said it will not look favorably upon the project. Observers think the city wants freedom to build a municipal power plant if Minn. Power & Light tries to raise its rates.
100 years ago (1917)
Because smallpox has been prevalent for several years in this part of the state, and in view of the disease now being on the rise, free vaccinations will be available for children at their schools. No child will be vaccinated without a signed permission from parent or guardian.
