As the only returning starter from last year's state tournament basketball team, Sara Hemquist was expected to be a Warrior leader. But her stellar play at point guard has led Brainerd to a 4-0 conference mark and saw her named Warrior Athlete of the Week.

30 years ago (1987)

An explosion that ripped through the roof of Deerwood Cabinets and Lumber on Christmas caused $2 to $3 million in damages. Fire officials had hoped to contain the fire when they first arrived but it was too far gone. No cause has been established.

(Photo) While Mille Lacs Lake has been acclaimed for winter fishing success, all the big walleyes aren't there. Ed Brown of Motley proved that by pulling this 10-12 walleye out of North Long Lake and entered it in the Lassig's Log Cabin winter contest.

100 years ago (1917)

The biggest Christmas home dinner this year was that given by Mr. and Mrs. I.U. White, with guests numbering 28. In addition, six dinners were sent out. The entire White family was in attendance, as well as several friends. I.U. White did the carving, spelled by his sons.
