CLC running back Marquel Wallace fumbled three times against Northland last week. But he didn't drop the ball when his dad needed him. Last year, his dad, Victor, experienced kidney failure and went on dialysis. Marquel didn't hesitate to donate one of his to help his dad.

The U.S. Forest Service may ask central Minnesota firefighters to help battle blazes in the Yellowstone Park area. Dave Nieman, Mission Township fire chief was asked to compile a list of men and equipment. Twelve firefighters from the Cuyuna Range are already in Yellowstone.

The Men's Twilight Golf League went into its final week with defending champ Abel Cable leading Brainerd TV by a single point. But Abel Cable split their match 2-2, while Brainerd TV took theirs by 3-1, necessitating a special playoff next week for the title.

Emil Heintz, of Ashton, Wisc., was retained last night by the school board as dean of the new Brainerd Junior College. He has a masters degree in history from the Univ. of Wisconsin. He replaces George Manus, who was hired last week but was unable to qualify for a Minnesota license.

A freight train entering Brainerd just averted catastrophe. A journal burned off and the car dropped on the 6th Street crossing, tearing up track. Had that happened as the train crossed the bridge, half the train might have catapulted into the Mississippi.
