The Warriors survived a wild finish to defeat top-seeded Bemidji 35-33 to win the Section 8 championship. Brainerd trailed most of the game until Mitch Feierabend blocked a punt and Brainerd scored for the lead. With Brainerd ahead 35-33, Bemidji failed on a 2-point conversion.

Colin Beachy of Staples-Motley won the Class A cross country state title while Brainerd 8th grader Turena Johnson finished 10th in her first Class AA girls' meet. The Warrior runner's finish was the highest by a junior high athlete since 1978.

An engineering consultant informed the county board that the local airport expansion project is the number one airport priority of both the state and the FAA. The major goal is building a 1,500 runway extension so the airport can accommodate larger jet aircraft.

Premature news said fighting in the great war ended today in Europe, but local celebrations had a sad note. Two men had their hands torn off by the premature explosion of the NP Railroad cannon at 5th and Laurel. After an initial celebratory shot, they were swabbing the barrel when black powder exploded.
