Adrian Peterson may skip Vikings preseason

Minnesota Vikings star running back Adrian Peterson may not take a snap during the preseason.

Coach Mike Zimmer told that there is "nothing to see" from Peterson as the Vikings prepare for the season. At the most, Peterson may take only a few snaps.

Zimmer said the injury risks are too great to have Peterson playing much, if at all, in exhibition games. However, he will allow Peterson to see some action if he thinks it will benefit him.

Peterson said the Vikings offense will not be as reliant on him as in the past because it is much more versatile under first-year coach Zimmer and offensive coordinator Norv Turner.

The Vikings are still working out the quarterback situation. Turner evenly split practice reps on Monday among Matt Cassel, Teddy Bridgewater and Christian Ponder. However, the snaps will only be divided between two quarterbacks after Tuesday's off day.

Cassel may have the edge over fellow veteran Christian Ponder, but the Vikings selected Bridgewater in the first round of the draft. Bridgewater was taken No. 32 overall but Turner said Saturday that he should have been a top-10 pick.
