Amateur Baseball: Sobieski wins Class C title
JORDAN — If there were an ironman award in the Class C state tournament,
it would belong to Sobieski's pitching ace Tyler Jendro.
The right-hander crushed tournament pitching records with a 2-0 complete
game shutout over the New Ulm Brewers for the state title Monday
It was his sixth win of the tournament and fourth in three days as he
toppled the previous record of four wins. Four of the wins were complete
game performances, three by shutout, including a 4-0 no-hitter over New
Market on Saturday. He picked up the other two wins in relief,
4-1 on Sunday over Fergus Falls, and 2-1 earlier Monday morning over
Faribault in a semifinal game delayed by rain from Sunday evening.
Jendro only allowed one run in four complete games and two relief
appearances. Over 41.2 innings, he walked only three batters, while
striking out 44, and allowed 19 hits. He also drove in the winning runs in
three of the six games for Sobieski in the tournament.
In Monday's title contest, he struck out six, walked none and gave up
Andew Gurbada drove in Cole Jendro with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of
the fourth to get the Skis on the scoreboard.
Sobieski loaded the bases with nobody out in the fifth. Joey Hanowski hit
a sacrifice fly to center scoring Collin Eckman, who opened the inning
with a bunt single.
The Skis were the Victory League West Division champions and finish 24-2.

JORDAN — Tyler Jendro picked up a tournament record fifth win and drove in
the game winning run for the third time in the tournament to lead the
Sobieski Skis into the championship round of the Class C state tournament
with a 2-1 victory over the Faribault Lakers Monday morning.
The Skis were trailing 1-0 in the third inning of the semifinal Sunday
night when rain delayed the completion of the game until late Monday

bottom of the sixth that scored Joey Hanowski.
Riley Hirschy led off the eighth with a single and advanced to third on
bunts by Hanowski and Jon Czech. Jendro's sacrifice fly to center drove
in Hirschy with the go ahead run and gave Jendro his third game-winning
RBI of the tournament.
Jendro picked up the win throwing the final 2.2 innings in relief. He
struck out three and gave up two hits.
Nate Olson finished 2-3 with a double for the Skis.
