American Legion Legacy run set Aug. 8-10
The 2014 American Legion Legacy Run will take place on the weekend of Aug. 8-10.
American Legion Rider chapter members from across the state participate in the run, which starts at the Little Falls Legion Post and is scheduled to stop at Brainerd American Legion Post No. 255 at 9:30 a.m. on Aug. 8. The Run then will continue on a northern route with overnight stops in Walker and Clearwater, ending on Sunday in Coon Rapids.
The American Legion Legacy Run raises money for the ALR scholarship fund. The Run stops at Legion Posts along the way to pick up funds designated or donated to support the scholarship fund.
The American Legion Legacy Scholarship was created as a result of Operation Iraqi Freedom and the global war on terror, which left many children of our active-duty military personnel in single-parent households. The funds raised will ensure that higher education will be a reality for these families.
It is estimated that 11,000 children have lost a parent in the war, a number continues to grow. The American Legion Family is working to ensure that these children, who want a post-secondary education, will be provided one.
American Legion Riders in Minnesota formed the Minnesota Legacy Run to gather the funds that have been raised and to continue the fundraising to reach the set goal of $20 million.
