Arden W. Christiansen

Arden W. Christiansen, age 73 of New London died on Sunday, August 3, 2014, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, August 7, 2014, at Peace Lutheran Church in New London. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in New London. A visitation will be held from 5-7:00 pm on Wednesday, at Peace Lutheran Church and continue one hour prior to the service. Services are entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home in New London.

Arden Wayne Christiansen was born on December 22, 1940, in his families log home in the Burbank Township, the son of Ralph and Leona (Timm) Christiansen. He grew up on the family farm where he attended New London Elementary and High School. After high school Arden moved to the Twin Cities where he worked as an mechanic.

On June 9, 1962, Arden was united in marriage to Sharon Chapin at Motley Methodist Church in Motley, MN. This union was blessed with two sons and a daughter. The family made their home in rural New London where Arden worked for Trinity Steel, Crow River Industries, Midstate Telephone Company, Farm Star, WetJet International, and Aqua-Therm.

Arden was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in New London, MN. He was a former maintenance board member and an active volunteer on many projects, including the new roof project, and the steeple lighting. Arden was also a member of the Oak Hill Cemetery Board, where he spent many hours improving their cemetery maps. Arden enjoyed restoring hit and miss engines, vintage motorcycles and bicycles, and old cars, especially his 1950 Oldsmobile. Arden also loved stock car racing and helping his brother and nephew in their pit crews. He also enjoyed going to flea markets, where he would search for treasures for his granddaughters. Arden was great family man that always looked forward to family get-togethers and holidays.

Arden W. Christiansen died on Sunday, August 3, 2014, at Rice Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Shari; children, Julie (Lloyd) Nelson of Atwater and Gary (Jeanine) Christiansen of Baxter; granddaughters, Michele (Josh) Petersen, Rebecca Hanson, Ryen Christiansen and Maren Christiansen; and a great grandson, Brayden Petersen. He is also survived by his siblings, Roger Christiansen, Donna (Denny) Lund, Corky (Charlotte) Christiansen; and many nieces and nephews.

Arden was preceded in death by his parents, and infant son, Clayton.
