Area Golf News: Paulson Insurance cashes in

Paulson Insurance got a little help from Von Hanson's Meats to claim the top spot in the men's league standings July 24 at Cragun's Legacy Courses.

Von Hanson's beat last week's leader Shep's on 6th 23.4-20.5, while Paulson Insurance beat Randall State Bank 27-17. The result is Paulson's one-point lead over Shep's in the team standings.

Reichert Bus is in third place thanks to a 25-19 win over Halverson Law.

Legacy women

Rachel Martin captured the low putts honor on Bobby's Legacy, while Missy Koel was the Par 3 Course winning July 22 during women's night at Cragun's Legacy Courses.

Proximity winners on Bobby's Course were Rhonda Mareck (closest to pin), Connie Tisdell (Closest in two), Amy Nelson (longest putt) and Dawn Buckwalter (longest putt).

Par 3 winners were Laura Boeckermann (closest to the pin), Bonnie Brandon (long putt), Brandy Blum (long putt).

Breezy Point men

Billy's 2 used a 13-7 victory over Thomas & Severson Law 3 July 24 to build a 1.5-point lead in the Breezy Point Resort men's league standings.

Dirt Busters didn't give up much ground as they beat Mike & Ben 12.5-7.5 to remain in striking distance.

Thomas & Severson Law 2 beat JJ's Pub 13-7 to land in third place.

Whitefish men

Todd Wordelman and Richard Femrite captured the first flight of the two man tango event July 22 during the Whitefish men's league.

Tom McGrath and Ed Carpenter placed second followed by Jerry Moja and Erlin Johnson.

Tom Baken and Hugh Wooldridge won the second flight. Bob Beatty and Gary Amudson placed second and Dave Keeling and Dave Lobben third.

Jim DeVinck and James McKeehen won the third flight followed by Mike Carnahan and Stan Michal in second and Bil Anderson and Jim Postlewaite in third.

Greg Lindahl and Paul Beilfuss were pin hunting and Todd Wordelman and Jim Rauenhorst drained the longest putts.

Whitefish women

Susan Walstrom collected 39 points to win flight A of the stableford game July 23 during the Whitefish Women's 18-hole league.

Maxine Riches placed second with Barb Holubar winning a tiebreaker for third with Anita Stensby and Ginger Giefer.

Marguerite Baker and Sherrie Adams shared first place honors in flight B. Connie Weber placed third.

Mary Boeder's 40 points were good for the flight C win. Joi Brandt and Judy Eastwood tied for second.

Baker, Adam and Boeder all tied for the day's low net with 68s. Connie Weber shot a 69.

Helen McGrath recorded the only chip in, which resulted in a birdie. Other birdies included Riches, Marty Moakley and Eastwood.

July 30 will be the Make A Wish donation day.

Madden's Resort

Jacki West, Patty Younghans, Donna Lindberg and Jane Guild shot a team score of 43 to win the 3-3-3 (best ball, scramble, alternate shot) event July 22 during Women's night at Madden's Resort.

Dawn Wiebusch, Carol Vogt, Margie Newpower and Judy Pryor shot 49 for second.

Younghans made the longest putt with Vogt winning the drawing.

Madden's Pink Ribbon Cupboard tournament is scheduled for Sept. 10.

Black Bear Women

Gloria Taylor, Donna Balzer, Cathy Switajewski and Carol Lovro shot a 59 to win the pink ball game during the Black Bear women's 9-hole league.

Gloria Taylor had a chip in and Lila Kersey carded the low putts with 15.

Eagle's Landing results

Alec Rude and Kyler Erdman won the gross division of the July 21 Monday Night Scramble at Eagle's Landing.

Jim Guida and Oz Copa won the net position with Keith and Dave Wickline finishing second, Jeff Smith and Wyatt Carr placing third and Brett Speer and Dustin Barton fourth.

Howie Person and Tom Younghans placed second in the gross division followed by Steve Wiltse and Terry Gavin in third and Eric Svor and Jason Drieling in fourth.

Rude captured the longest putt and longest drive. Guida and Jerry Schoenberg were closest to the pin.

Margie Thesing, Julie Schuller, Roberta Nyquist and Connie Seelen won the July 23 women's league event. Jan Maxfield made the longest putt, Thesing and Patty Clocke were closest to the pin and Thesing was closest on her second shot.

Eric Rowbottom shot a gross 69 to win the July 24 Thursday night men's league.

He was followed by Nick Dahl 75, Steve Wiste 7, Carl Hendrickson 78 and Larry Paige 80.

Steve Klein shot a low net 62 followed by Wiltse's 64, Tom Banwart's 65, Bob Tusler's 65 and 66s from Bryan Hill and Ken Knopik.

Jeff Conrad's 38 was the nine-hole low gross. Matt Arnoldy and Paul Nelson shot 40s and Martin Nooter and KC Kohlbrand shot 43s.

Dennis Lind shot a net 28 followed by 32s from Randy Herlick, Kohlbrand, Arnoldy and Nooter.

Eric and Jessica Gangle won the July 27 Sunday night couples event. Derek and Melissa Schmeck finished second.

The Gangles swept the longest drives, while Steve Gottsch made the longest putt.

Birch Bay results

Vi Anderson and Mary Ann Bauer won the Pink Ball game June 25 during the Birch Bay women's day. Judy Kolstad had a chip in.

On June 18, Barb Heck hit the longest drive and Judy Kolstad and Lyn Schoenebaum both chipped in.

Joyce Evans sank the longest putt on June 4 with Bev Fruth chipping in.

Waverek ties for third

Dakota Waverek, playing out of Cragun's Legacy Courses, shot 37-37 - 74 to tie for third place in the 23rd Twin Cities Junior Championship July 24 at Victory Links Golf Course in Blaine.

Paul Vogt of Minnesota Valley shot a 71 for the boys 16-18 division title.

Stoxen, Muesing top finishers

Thomas Stoxen and Jenny Muesing were the top area finishers in the Minnesota Section Junior PGA Players' Tour Series A division.

Stoxen, who played in five events, finished 13th in the final season standings with 203.33 total points. He tied for fifth twice during the season. The first time at Northland Country Club in Duluth and the second at The Classic at Madden's. Both times the recent Brainerd High School graduate shot 77. Stoxen is in 28th place in the Player of the Year honors, which covers all tours.

Muesing, a fellow Brainerd graduate, finished fourth despite playing in just two events. She won the Northland event and placed fourth in the Alexandria Golf Club event to secure 155 points.

Muesing will play college golf at Lipscomb University this fall. She is 12th in the Player of the Year standings.

Amanda Nies of Breezy Point placed eighth with 102.5 points in five events played. Her top Series place was a tie for second at Moorhead Country Club and a fifth place at The Classic. She did with the junior tour event played at Madden's Pine Beach West.

Jessica Hawks of Pierz tied for 13th

Peter Dahl, Brainerd, finished 36th with 85 points. Joe Foley, East Gull Lake, was 38th with 81.82 points. Little Falls' Kyler Erdman placed 42nd with 65 points. Andrew Muesing of Baxter and Logan Jackson of Pillager tied for 51st and Thomas Burgstaler, who played in just two events, tied for 61st.

Vintage represented

Bill Israelson shot rounds of 71-76-78 to tie for 47th in the Minnesota State Open Championship July 25-27 at Bunker Hills golf Club in Coon Rapids.

Israelson's 225 was 17th shots off the winner Trent Peterson of Valleywood Golf Course, who beat Justin Smith of University Golf Course in a one-hole playoff.

Brandon Myers, also of the Vintage, shot a three-round 232 to place 65th.


Denny Martin, Brainerd, aced the 127-yard 15th hole at Eagle's Landing July 24 using an 8-iron.

Bryan Beltrand, Wayzata, aced the 133-yard 17th hole at The Classic at Madden's July 24 using a pitching wedge.

Chuck Kneip, Spring, Texas, aced the 170-yard 12th hole at The Classic at Madden's July 25 using a 2-wood.
