Big Bill$ Lil' Rubber Duckie Race arrives Aug. 2
More than 5,000 little rubber duckies will launch at 1 p.m. Aug. 2 from the Laurel Street Bridge in Brainerd.
Organized by the Brainerd Jaycees, the fourth annual event will raise funds for youth sports in the Brainerd lakes area. Duckies are available for purchase at area outlets for $5 and the first 35 duckies to cross the finish line are worth $10,000 in cash and prizes.
"We are really excited to host the event again this year," said event organizer Jake Thesing. "We couldn't do it without the help of our sponsors and the entire Brainerd lakes community."
The duckies are collected and prizes awarded at Kiwanis Park, but those adopting duckies need not be present to win.
The Brainerd Jaycees started Big Bill$ Lil' Rubber Duckie Race in 2011 as a means to support youth sports in the Brainerd lakes area. The Jaycees partnered with Lakes Area Youth Soccer Association (LAYSA) and other youth sports organizations to help sell the duckies. The Jaycees have donated more than $45,000 dollars to LAYSA, Brainerd High School Rodeo, Brainerd Wrestling Club, Brainerd Public Schools Foundation, youth baseball teams and other youth athletic groups after the past three events.
Duckie sales locations are Taco Johns, Pine Square, College Square, Raceway Square, Cub Foods Baxter, Kentucky Fried Chicken in Brainerd and Baxter, Wild Rice Depot and SAVE Liquor Store.
