Brainerd firefighters keeping busy

The Brainerd Fire Department has been busy fighting grass fires and other calls in the past few days.

On Friday morning, firefighters were called to Gregory Park to a fire in the male restroom. One engine and a half dozen firefighters responded to a fire in the plastic fire bin. About $7,000 of damages was done to the restrooms.

On Thursday morning, Brainerd firefighters were back in the woods for a grass fire. Firefighters were called at 9:25 a.m. to an area between Cindy Street and College Drive near Central Lakes College of a report of a grass fire.

It was reported that someone was camping and having a fire, which may have caused the grass fire. A 20- by 40-foot area burned.

A dozen firefighters and two engines and DNR foresters responded to the fire.

Other calls Thursday included: A call at 1:45 p.m. to a burning complaint on Pine Street; at 4:16 p.m. to a vehicle rollover on Foley Road in Baxter, where firefighters were canceled on scene; at 8:56 p.m. to Highway 371 North and Edgewood Drive for a vehicle fire; and a call at 10:39 p.m. to North 10th Street for smoke in a residence. Firefighters ventilated the home and cleared the scene at 11:23 p.m.
