Brainerd History Week
By now, most of you know that Brainerd is celebrating “History Week” June 16-22. Many delightful events are planned, one of them, a children’s parade on Wednesday, June 18.
We are calling it the “Teddy Bear Parade.” Children are asked to bring a stuffed teddy bear, toy or doll. No live animals. Children 10 and under are invited.
The parade will take place in downtown Brainerd at 10 a.m. The route is from Eighth Street to Sixth Street on Laurel, then right on the sidewalk to Front, where the parade will disassemble. Adult supervision will be present at all times. Prizes will be given.
The staging of the parade will take place in The Office Shop parking lot at Eighth and Maple and will begin at 9 a.m. The parade will begin at 10 a.m.
Crow Wing County Dairy Princess Veronica Nelson will lead the parade. Smokey Bear is expected to be part of it also. An escort by the Legion No. 255 Riders Club will add to the festivity.
All children 10 and under are welcome. Sign-up sheets are available at the Brainerd Public Library and at the Fun and Friends room in the Washington Educational Services Building (the old Washington High School).
Enjoy historic downtown while you are there. Learn more about the history of some of the buildings and browse to your heart’s content.
