Johnson joins Brainerd Dispatch as night editor

The Brainerd Dispatch recently welcomed Michael Johnson to the staff as full-time night editor.

Johnson is a native of Verndale, and recently moved to the Staples area.

Johnson, 29, worked previously for BHG News Inc. as an editor for the weekly newspapers Leader-News in Washburn, N.D. and Underwood News in Underwood, N.D. for about four years. Prior to that, he worked as a reporter for the Gillette News-Record, a daily newspaper in Gillette, Wyo.

Johnson attended college at Central Lakes College in Brainerd where he received his associate's degree, minoring in natural resources. He also graduated from Minnesota State University Moorhead, where he majored in mass communications and English.

Perkins joins the Brainerd Dispatch

Chelsey Perkins joined the Brainerd Dispatch as staff writer.

Perkins, the daughter of Robert and Kim Perkins of Crosslake, is a 2004 Pequot Lakes High School graduate and a 2008 cum laude graduate of the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities School of Journalism and Mass Communication, where she received a bachelor's degree in professional journalism.

Perkins began her journalism career interning at the Lake Country Echo in 2005 and went on to intern as a reporter at the Rochester and Austin Post-Bulletins the following summer of 2006.

While attending the University of Minnesota, Perkins worked first as a copy editor and page designer and later as an opinion columnist at The Minnesota Daily, the university's student-run newspaper. She went on to intern at the national bimonthly magazine Utne Reader, where she was hired as the research editor in 2009.

After her position was eliminated because of budget cuts in 2011, Perkins interned with the Institute of Agriculture and Trade Policy in Minneapolis as a food and farm journalist and worked as a server at ACME Comedy Company in Minneapolis and Stout's Pub in Falcon Heights.

Perkins moved back to the Brainerd lakes area in February to work as a staff writer for the Pineandlakes Echo Journal, where she covered the communities of Crosslake and Breezy Point, as well as the Pequot Lakes School District.

For the Brainerd Dispatch, she will cover the Crow Wing County Board and will coordinate and write for the monthly special section, In Our Prime.

Suojanen joins Essentia Health-St. Joseph's Medical Center

Dr. Mark Suojanen, an anesthesiologist, joined Essentia Health-St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brained.

As part of his practice, Suojanen helps patients understand what to expect before they receive anesthesia. "Many patients feel nervous about receiving anesthesia," Suojanen said. "My job is to answer their questions and to relieve some of that anxiety before we go into the operating room."

Suojanen earned a medical degree from the University of Minnesota Medical School in Minneapolis. He completed a residency in anesthesiology at the University of Toledo Medical Center in Toledo, Ohio.

Crow Wing Chiropractic opens in Baxter

BAXTER - Crow Wing Chiropractic, a family practice offering an array of chiropractic services, recently opened on Edgewood Drive in Baxter.

Crow Wing Chiropractic's team officially opened the doors at the new facility in June. It is located between The Framing Connection and JB Accounting on Edgewood Drive.

Jedediah Moore is the sole chiropractor in the clinic. Moore reported the office is modern, from the artwork to the paperless patient intake forms. The office was specifically designed using neutral colors, along with some blue accents, to offer a calming atmosphere.

Crow Wing Chiropractic features state of the art adjusting tables for children and adults, digital X-ray equipment.

Crow Wing Chiropractic treats individuals of all ages at the new clinic in Baxter.

Chiropractic treatments available include adjustments, rehabilitative exercise, back pain treatment, nutritional counseling, and more. The office offers Department of Transportation exams.
