Class 2A State Softball: Cardinals finish sixth at state

NORTH MANKATO — Kelsey Zetah went 2-3 with a run helping the Staples-Motley Cardinals jump out to a 2-0 lead Friday.

St. Anthony Village answered with 10 runs leading to a 10-2 victory and its second Class 2A state consolation championship.

St. Anthony scored three runs in the third and fourth innings and added two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings.

S-M’s Megan Vetsch allowed 14 hits and one walk. Five of the runs were unearned as the Cardinals committed four errors. Vetsch struck out five. Mackenzie Holst went 1-2 with a run and Sarah Daly collected an RBI.

The Cardinals were limited to four hits, Kaleigh Hosier add S-M’s other one.

Courtney Norlien pitched the victory. She went six innings and struck out eight. Both runs allowed were unearned.

The Cardinals finish the season 15-7.
