Crow Wing County Livestock 4-H Members succeed at livestock show
The 79th Northeast 4-H Livestock Show was conducted Sept. 14-15 in Brainerd. The Northeast 4-H Livestock show plays host to the top livestock in the Northeast region. This year 281 youths participated from 17 counties.
To participate in the show 4-Hers must have received a blue ribbon at their county fair to be eligible to compete in this two day show. The first day of the show focuses on educational opportunities for youths to participate in relating to the species of animal they are interested in and showmanship. The second day of the show highlights the 4-Hers and their livestock in the species shows.
Crow Wing County was represented at this show by 41 4-H members. Receiving Champion honors were Isaac Britton with his registered Simmental/Angus cow/calf beef; David Larson with his commercial Charolais/Angus cow/calf pair; Andrew Caughey with his Bronze Turkeys; Matthew Lagaard in showmanship with his Flemish Giant rabbit; and Reserve Champion was awarded to Patrick Hofmann in showmanship with his Boer goat. All other Crow Wing County 4-H members received blue ribbons in showmanship.
Beef exhibitors included; Cole Aspholm, commercial heifer, blue; Peter Britton, registered heifer, blue; Addison Hillman, prospect calf, blue; Grace Kraklau, registered heifer, blue; Jacob Kraklau, market beef, blue; Bridget Larson, registered heifer, blue; Samantha Larson, commercial cow/calf, blue; Alicia Moe, market beef, blue; Athena Moe, registered heifer, blue; Austin Moe, registered heifer, blue; Maren Rahto, registered cow/calf, blue; Billy Segler, registered heifer, blue; Stephanie Segler, commercial heifer, blue; Dustin Sweet, dairy beef, red; and Garrett Sweet, diary beef, red.
Goat exhibitors were Jacob Britten, Alpine/Overhassy market goat, blue; Kylie Dano, French Alpine market goat, blue; Patrick Hofmann, Boer goat, blue; Jessica Otto, Boer goat, red; and Levi Raddatz, Boer goat, blue.
Poultry exhibitors were Haven Bernatsky, Cochin Bantam chickens, red; Isaiah Bernatsky, Silver Appleyard Ducks, blue; Abby Fleming, Black Austrolorp chickens, blue; Zach Kraklau, Rhode Island White chickens, red; Raychel Raddatz, Black Austrolorp, blue; and Hannah Studniski, Cornish Cross chickens, red.
Rabbit Exhibitors included; Conner Becker, Mini Rex doe, blue; Jennifer Franzen, Holland Lop doe, blue; Megan Franzen, French Lop, blue; Matthew Lagaard, blue; Lexi Larson, Netherland Dwarf, blue; Abby Schreier, Jersey Wooly, blue; Dalton Schreier, Jersey Wooly, blue, and Elizabeth Studinski, Mini Rex doe, blue.
Ty Schubert was the lone sheep exhibitor representing Crow Wing County receiving a blue ribbon on his Hampshire cross breeding yearling ewe.
In the swine area, Arica Caughey’s Yorkshire gilt received a blue ribbon as did Jenna Caughey’s gilt. Jeron Schubert’s market barrow cross received a red ribbon.
