High School Football: DeRosier, Ross head to training camp

Training camp for the Minnesota Football Coaches Association Tackle Cancer All-Star Football Game begins Sunday, June 22, and runs through June 27 at St. John's University in Collegeville.

Lineman Alex DeRosier of Brainerd and linebacker Trysten Ross of Little Falls will play for the North against the South. Game time is 1 p.m. June 28 at Clemens Stadium on the St. John's campus.

The game will showcase outstanding seniors from the 2013 season. Players and coaches representing 83 schools and 29 conferences will participate. Players were selected by members of the MFCA.

Bill Weiss of Chisago Lakes will be head coach of the North.

Weiss will be assisted by Earl Bauman of St. Michael-Albertville (retired, MFCA Hall of Fame 2012, second All-Star coaching assignment; Mark Elmer of Stillwater (2012 Butch Nash Award winner); Jay Loven of Upsala/Swanville; John McEachran of Perham (2012 Butch Nash Award winner); Derek Parendo of Proctor (2007 Butch Nash Award winner); Matt Townsend of Columbia Heights; and Jon Young of Coon Rapids.

Honorary coach of the North is Con Natvig of Swanville and Browerville (MFCA Hall of Fame 2007).

Head coach of the South is Mike Grant of Eden Prairie (MFCA Hall of Fame 2014, 2013 Class 6A state champion, second All-Star head coaching assignment).

Grant's assistants include Ray Betton of Holy Angels (2013 Class 4A runner-up); Jeff Johnson of Chatfield (2013 Class 2A state champion); Mark Ritter of Eden Prairie (2011 Butch Nash Award winner); Paul Ruud of Glencoe-Silver Lake (2012 Butch Nash Award winner); James Semmen of Lanesboro; Steve Solem of BOLD (second All-Star coaching assignment); George Thole of Stillwater (retired, MFCA Hall of Fame 2000, third All-Star coaching assignment).

Honorary coach of the South is Dick Strand of Southland (MFCA Hall of Fame 2003.
