BAXTER — Motorists will encounter delays and a detour as work on the reconstruction of Highway 71 through Browerville begins Monday.

Highway 71 will be closed to through traffic between Seventh Street and 11th Street as work begins on the first phase of the project.

A signed detour will direct motorists along County Road 14 and County Road 11.

The project is scheduled to be completed by Oct. 31.

When complete, the project will reconstruct Highway 71 between Drayer Creek near First Street and Harris Creek near 11th Street, replace sidewalks and underground utilities, install new LED lighting, improve a segment of Fifth Street and an alleyway east of Highway 71, and install an emergency vehicle entering flasher system in downtown Browerville.
