History week is here
Don't miss the events planned for Brainerd History Week (Monday thru Sunday
June 16-22). It will be a week-long celebration. The Crow Wing County Historical Society's day is June 19. The day starts with an Evergreen Cemetery tour at 10 a.m. Society board member John Van Essen will be your guide. John will point out notable people that are buried in Evergreen Cemetery. Then at noon the events at the Crow Wing County Fairgrounds begin. All of the society's buildings will be open. The historic Carbine House has been restored and a ribbon cutting ceremony at noon will officially open the 1868 log house.
Prairie Bay is catering a pulled pork sandwich and beans. Cost will be $6. Blacksmith Jim Newgord
will demonstrate blacksmithing in the blacksmith shop, and Linda Larson will be spinning wool in the Carbine house. Dawn Holmquist, founder and artistic director of the ABC Theater, will portray Mary Tornstrom longtime Brainerd teacher and principal in the District 3 old schoolhouse. You also are
invited to visit relatives of the Wohl family in the Wohl house.
Authors of the Brainerd Book Images of America Brainerd will be available to sign your copy or you may purchase a copy in the general store. Antique tractors will be on display courtesy of the Old Homestead Tractor Club. Look for the old covered wagon and you will know you are at the right place. Check
