NHL: Wild sign forward Almond
ST. PAUL — The Minnesota Wild on Wednesday announced the signing of forward Cody Almond to a contract for the 2014-15 season.
The 24-year-old recorded 34 points (18-16-34), a plus-12 rating and 75 penalty minutes (PIM) in 44 games with Geneve-Servette in the Swiss League in 2013-14. He tied for second on the team in goals and tied for fourth in scoring.
Almond notched 30 points (8-22-30) in 39 games with Geneve-Servette in 2012-13.
The 6-foot-2, 217-pound native of Calgary, Alta., was originally selected by Minnesota in the fifth round (140th overall) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. He skated in 25 NHL games with the Wild in parts of three seasons (2009-12) and tallied two goals.
Almond collected 67 points (29-38-67) and 292 PIM in 159 games with the Houston Aeros in the American Hockey League from 2009-12 and added eight points (1-7-8) in 26 Calder Cup playoff matches.
