Pope County man’s death under investigation

GLENWOOD - Officials are investigating a man’s death late Wednesday in west-central Minnesota.

Pope County sheriff’s deputies arrived at a rural Gilchrist Township home around 11:25 p.m. Wednesday after receiving a 911 call. The caller said a person had been shot at the residence, according to a release by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety.

Police found a distraught female outside the home and the dead man inside. Investigators believe both people lived at the residence.

The Pope County Sheriff’s Office and Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension are investigating and do not believe the public is at risk. Sheriff’s deputies and agents are conducting interviews with the female and any possible witnesses.

The man’s body will be taken to the Anoka County medical examiner for an autopsy and formal identification.
