Racing: BIR Show & Go comes with $10,000 purse
With a lineup that includes drag racing, road racing, car show, fireworks, live music and kids games, Brainerd International Raceway's 28th annual PleasureLand RV Show and Go will be headquarters for race fans this weekend.
Show and Go has a long tradition of providing great racing for fans and related activities. The event runs Friday through Sunday (July 4-6), with gates opening Thursday morning for camping.
Show and Go has always featured big horsepower and amazing speed on the drag strip and road racing on the 2.5-mile Competition Road Course. This year is no different.
The second leg of the three-race Muscle Car Series will provide action on the drag strip, with more than 350 cars expected. At center stage are the seven Heads-Up Classes, where speeds can top 200 mph with series points at stake as well as series championships at the end of the season.
On BIR's 2.5-mile Competition Road Course, the Cheerios Racing Great North Legends Cars make their debut, with racing Saturday and Sunday. The Legends Cars are five-eighths scale 1930s sedans and coupes.
Also new to Show and Go this year is the Ultimate Road Race Challenge on the road course. It's open to all road racers and features a 20-car, 12-lap $10,000 winner-take-all race Saturday.
Sunday's program includes open lapping for those who want to test their cars on the road course. Interested drivers should contact the BIR Performance Driving School at (218) 824-7606.
"The drag racing will be outstanding again but we're really excited about the road racing program this year," BIR owner Jed Copham said in a news release. "We've never had the Legends Cars here before but they're really popular at other tracks because they're small, quick and really fun to watch.
"The Ultimate Road Race Challenge is new this year as well. We've got a number of classes that the drivers will be competing in, with the grand finale being the $10,000 race. That's a pretty nice purse for someone to go home with and should result in great racing."
Saturday's program includes a Classic Car Show, fireworks and live music by Junk FM.
On-site camping is free with a multi-day ticket.
Daily admission is $25; kids 12 and under are free.
