Seven injured in two-vehicle crash on 77

Seven people were injured Saturday when two vehicles collided on County Highway 77 near Dan's Sod, north of Brainerd, the Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office reported.

It was reported that Laura Giles, 33, Brainerd, was traveling west on County Highway 77, also known as Pine Beach Road, and a vehicle driven by Thomas Kayser, 77, St. Paul, was stopped in the roadway in the eastbound lane waiting to turn into Dan's Sod. Giles swerved to the right to avoid colliding with Kayser's vehicle which caused her to lose control of her vehicle, the sheriff's office reported. Giles' vehicle then collided with Kayser's vehicle. Both vehicles sustained substantial damage.

Both drivers and their passengers were transported to Essentia Health-St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd to be treated for their injuries.

Kayser had four passengers: Marlen Kayser, 75, St. Paul, Eugene Goetz, 3, Minneapolis, John Eisberg, 76, Nicasio, Calif., and Jan Conlin, 51, Minneapolis. Everyone, with the exception of Thomas Kayser and Marlen Kayser, was treated and released. The hospital had no information available on the Kaysers.

The crash was reported at 12:23 p.m.

The Baxter Police Department, Brainerd Fire Department and North Memorial Ambulance assisted the sheriff's office at the scene of the crash.
