Ted W. Brauns (age 102) - Born (Thilo Waldemar Brauns) 1911 Chicago, IL passed away 07/17/2014 at Summerwood of Plymouth. Preceded in death by wife Jane (nee White), parents Vernon T. Brauns & Wilhelmina (nee Blumenthal, Brauns) Blanchard, brothers Hollis and Kenneth, sisters Verna Grant, and Elise "Lee" Bauer. Ted is survived by sons David (CA), Robert (CA), Keith (MN), 8 grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren. Summers 193233 Ted rode the freight trains around the US. He attended Central College of Commerce Chicago, IL and played some semi-pro football during the days of leather helmets. 194346 Ted served in the Civil Service at Pearl Harbor in the Navy Yards motor-pool where he had the opportunity to chauffeur General MacArthur. While at Pearl Harbor Ted organized and was President of the Chicago Club of Hawaii. In 46 Ted traveled to Nisswa, MN where he founded and was the original owner of the Nisswa Indian Trading Mart. He later changed the name to the Totem Pole after purchasing a totem pole from a St Cloud company. Ted organized the Nisswa & Gull Lake Resort Owners Association and the Nisswa Tourist Bureau. He was instrumental in developing maps of the Lakes Area for the Tourist Bureau and AAA. In 1954 Ted sold The Totem Pole and moved to Minneapolis. 195783 Ted was Sales Representative for Hugo Herzberg Co and Orb Originals. Ted operated a showroom at the Radisson-Center, Minneapolis. In 1969 Ted traveled to Alaska completing travel to All 50 States. In 1970 he returned to Hawaii to reunite with some Pearl Harbor buddies. Remains to be scattered by family.
