VFW Baseball: Sophomores win Monticello tournament

MONTICELLO — An RBI single by Jack Geraets and a hit batsmen with the bases loaded scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh and the Brainerd VFW sophomore team nipped the Eagles of Totino Grace 3-2 to win the Monticello Invitational in walk-off fashion Saturday.

Jake Meyer and Jaden Miller each had two hits for Brainerd.

Chris Pederson pitched a complete game for the win. He allowed 10 hits and two earned runs, walked one and struck out seven.

The win was the sixth in a row for Brainerd, which hosts Sartell for a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m. Monday at Adamson Field.
