Warm summer week ahead
Finally, summer has arrived.
A string of consecutive days with temperatures pushing ever closer to the 90 degree mark, the lakes area can embrace summer in earnest. The recent warm-up comes on the heels of an early summer that has regularly been cooler than normal.
Unsettled weather led to a lightning show early Sunday morning as storms rolled into the region. For all the thunder and lightning, the Brainerd Lakes Regional Airport had just .03 inches of rain early Sunday.
Thunderstorms are possible today afternoon through Tuesday and again Thursday night through Friday night.
The chance for thunderstorms is 50 percent during the day today and likely at night, the National Weather Service reported. The chance is reduced to 20 percent on Tuesday. Highs for the coming week should moderate slightly and be about 10 degrees cooler or more than the Fourth of July holiday weekend. Temperatures are expected to reach the mid- to upper 70s during the week with comfortable lows in the upper 50s to lower 60s.
The coming weekend should be a perfect summer setting to enjoy the lakes regions with temps hovering just above 80 degrees beneath mostly sunny skies. There is a slight chance of a shower or thunderstorm Friday and Friday night before skies clear for the Saturday and Sunday.
