20 years ago (1994)

A Nisswa couple and the government are at odds over custody of a crow and how the bird's fate will be decided. Don and Chris Geisler raised the crow from a chick and took it to a vet when the 8-week-old bird had a broken leg. There it was confiscated.


30 years ago (1984)

Vandals destroyed the lifeguard stand at Whipple Beach, according to the county sheriff's office. The incident, which occurred Monday night, was caused by using a vehicle to push or pull the stand over.

40 years ago (1974)

60 years ago (1954)

A threat by the state conservation department to blow up the rock dam which maintains the water level of Clark Lake had residents there up in arms. A state game warden ordered a group of residents to stop repairing the dam as he had orders to dynamite it.

80 years ago (1934)

The honor roll of Civil War veterans listed another from the thinning ranks with the death of W.E. Entrikin, 88. He was one of the last two survivors in this city and one of the last from Sherman's march to the sea in1864. He came to Brainerd in 1882 when it was just a village.

100 years ago (1914)

Peter Yde of Sylvan was astonished when he looked in his barn and found he had fallen heir to a team of mules and a single-seat, covered carriage. They were left there overnight. He has fed the mules and wonders when the owner will show up.
