Collin W. Fritz of Des Moines and longtime North Long Lake resident recently announced expansion of his bank consulting business. Michael Murphy and James Carlson of Brainerd have been hired as VPs of marketing and administration.

Damp, cool weather kept crowds down at North Central Speedway during its second week of action. In Hobby Stock action it was all Bud Anderson, sweeping Heat, Trophy and Feature races, despite starting at the back of the pack in each due to being late to arrive.

While fishermen have been treated to chilly weather, it hasn’t hurt those tough enough to stick it out on local lakes. John Rushford of Minneapolis caught a 22-1 northern on South Long Lake, and two northerns over 17 pounds have also been entered at Cole’s Sports Shop.

The Virginia Ore Mining Co., operating the mine at Barrows is making arrangements to close down the Barrows mine. The parent M.A. Hanna Co. is facing a dull market and has vast properties in Michigan which can be mined by the cheaper open pit method.
