The board of directors of 1st American Bank announces the appointment of Robert Verkennes as VP of commercial loans and business development. He comes from Norwest Bank in St. Paul where he held a similar position. He is a Univ. of Minn. graduate.

Brainerd voters will go to the polls July 3 in a special election to determine whether the city should continue to resist Minnesota’s fluoridation law. The vote, before a delighted overflow crowd, came after a presentation by constitutional law professor Jack Graham.

During the months of April and May this year, not one automobile driver in Crow Wing County has been convicted of using his car while under the influence of intoxicating liquor. No such reports have been received from any justice of the peace, municipal or district court.

The authorities appear to take no steps whatever to check the growth of outside peddlers, beggars, etc. who go about town soliciting and camp on street corners. Brainerd appears to be on the map of all the peddlers, beggars and hoboes.
