(Photo) Enid Bennett-Shaw sports a cap, gown and a smile after learning she will receive an honorary diploma during graduation at Brainerd High School. She was an exchange teacher from Great Britain in 1984 at Riverside third grade. Eleven of those students will graduate with her.

The Warrior boys’ track team edged defending champ St. Cloud Tech for the South Sub-Region 8AA championship, piling up 92 points to Tech’s 88. Brainerd Coach Mark Embretson said with only two champions it spoke well for team balance.

A one-over-par 72 gave Leo Marchel, Sr. the Early Bird golf championship at the Brainerd Country Club. Marchel beat out Clyde Anderson by a single stroke. Pat Wilhelmson of Staples was third. Gordie Peterson took the first Flight with a net 69.

A new night club is being built west of Brainerd, just north of the Hwys 210 and 371 junction. Owner Johnny Adams expects his Starlite Club to be open by mid-June. The 66 by 60 foot building will have a bar, dining room and dance floor.

Paul Mueller, the Harvard landscape authority, spoke at the Commercial Club detailing the possibilities in Brainerd for landscape work. He urged establishing a driveway along the magnificent riverfront and acquisition of land there by the city before prices soared.
