While a gale-force wind whipped across the field and nipped at a capacity homecoming crowd, the Warrior football team blew past St. Cloud Tech. Brainerd scored frequently and quickly on its way to a 35-6 conference win over the Tigers for a 3-1 record.

City engineer Dave Reed became the second Brainerd official in two weeks to resign, following city clerk Jim Brockman on Sept. 17. Reed’s resignation letter, opened at the end of the council meeting, came as complete surprise to both mayor and council.

An intensive search through brush, swamp and forested areas near Evergreen Cemetery and Roosevelt football field was conducted for an elderly man missing for three days. National Guardsmen and Boy Scouts were called out and a search plane was used.

So that no person shall suffer from cold and want because of lack of clothing and other necessities, the Friendly Center, a division of the Community Relief Fund, is asking for donations of clothing. Supplies were completely depleted by last winter’s heavy demand.
100 years ago (1913)
Today is a red letter day on the south Cuyuna Range. The first shipment consisting of 12 cars of iron ore from the Barrows mine of the Virginia Mining Co. set out for the ore docks at Superior. Hundreds were present, congratulating Supt. W. J. Nicholas and crew.
