Nisswa Women's Club
MERRIFIELD - The Nisswa Women's Club will meet Thursday beginning with a social time at 11:30 a.m. and lunch at noon with the program to follow at The Woods (formerly Timbermist). The program will include "Ireland...A Lifelong Dream Realized..." by Mary Gibson. Luann Rice will share the Inspirational. Disabled American Veterans and Auxiliary
The monthly meeting for the DAV and (DAVA) Crow Wing County Chapter No. 22 will be 7 p.m. Thursday at the Brainerd VFW Club. Chapter 22 officers meeting will begin at 6 p.m.
Camp Knutson Night Under the Stars set for July 19
The 11th annual Night Under the Stars fundraiser for Camp Knutson is set for July 19. The western round-up begins at 5 p.m. on the beautiful Camp Knutson grounds. Country western and rodeo music provided by Bridget and Kai Allen. There will be refreshments and appetizers in the saloon. Visit the dining hall to bid on silent auction items.
Ticket prices include the saloon, silent auction and buffet catered by Brainerd Lakeland Catering: "Buttermilk" Sponsorship - $75 per person; "Trigger" Sponsorship - $150 per person; "Silver" Sponsorship - $300 per person; "Champion" Sponsorship - $5,000 for a table of eight, includes VIP parking; Silent Auction/saloon only - $25 per person.
Camp Knutson is a nonprofit organization providing camping experiences for special needs kids including autism, Down syndrome, heart disease, severe skin disorders and families affected by HIV and AIDS.

Testimonial dinner recently held for Shirley Frederick
The 2014 Department of Minnesota American Legion Auxiliary President Shirley Frederick was toasted May 31 at a testimonial dinner in her honor hosted by her Hackensack 202 Unit. Frederick's theme for this past year was Patriotism, Thank our Veterans-Teach our Children. Her project was to raise funds for the Creative Arts Program, Clothing Room and General activities fund at the St. Cloud VA. Her project also included money for the coffee supply fund and a three-year subscription to the Minnesota Legionnaire for the waiting room of each 16 C-BOC's (Community Based Outreach Clinic for Veterans) as well as four educational comic books, "Pledge of Allegiance," "Our Country's Flag," "Light of Liberty" and "Our Country's Veterans" which have been purchased by many Units and distributed to schools, libraries, waiting rooms and other places. Frederick's symbol was our American Flag, the eagle and the Statue of Liberty.
VFW Friday dinner
The VFW Friday dinner will be country fried beef steak serving from 5:30 p.m. until gone. Cost: $7.
Widowed Friends will have a picnic at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Lum Park No. 2.
Senior dances will be from 1-4 p.m. Wednesday at Brainerd's Blue Room with Jerry's Dance Band; at 3 p.m. Thursday at the Pierz Senior Center with music by the Social Security Express; and from 1-4 p.m. Friday at the Deerwood Legion with music by Andy and Stu.

Alpha Delta Kappa scholarship luncheon

Members are asked to bring a dish for the luncheon as well as a white elephant item to be auctioned off as a fundraising activity for the scholarship fund. Mary will also be hosting an ADK garage sale at her home on June 20-21. Members may bring donated items to the luncheon.
Brainerd Area Retired Teachers
DEERWOOD - The Brainerd Area Retired Teachers will meet noon Monday at the Cascade Methodist Church in Deerwood. Tammy Jo Johnson, resident services director at the Heartwood Campus in Crosby, will be the speaker. Her presentation will be basic education about dementia in regard to the changes in the brain and how it affects the person.
