The monthly meeting for the DAV, Crow Wing County Chapter No. 22 will be Thursday at the Brainerd VFW club. The membership meeting will begin at 7 p.m. All members are encouraged to attend. Chapter 22 officers meeting will begin at 6 p.m.
Mission Fire Fair planned
MERRIFIELD - The 27th annual Mission Fire Fair will begin at 11:30 a.m. July 19 at Mission Park, 13871 Mission Park Drive, Merrifield. There will be a roast pork lunch, silent auction and raffle, AirCare helicopter, fire department demonstration, pony rides and kids' activities.
Monetary donations accepted with all donations being used to buy new equipment for the fire department. This includes a Lucas Machine, SCBA replacement packs, rehab materials and upgrade tools for new trucks. Checks can be made payable to Mission Fire and Rescue Relief Association and mailed to P.O. Box 327, Merrifield, MN 56465.
Nisswa Women's Club to meet Thursday
NISSWA - The Nisswa Women's Club will hold its monthly meeting Thursday beginning with a social time at 11:30 a.m. and lunch at noon with the program to follow at Grand View Lodge, 23521 Nokomis Avenue, Nisswa.
The program will include "Living with Identity Theft and Scams" by Eric Klang. Joann Muehlbauer will share the inspirational. Hostesses for the meeting will be Deanna Anderson, Karen Flom, Jan Haarman, Karen Yundak and June Zuroski.

Brainerd Legion events
There will be a dedication ceremony for the Cal White Yellow Ribbon Room at 6 p.m. Monday.
The Past Commanders dinner meeting will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the home of Dick and Betty Hayes. A fish fry dinner will be served.
On Friday, there will be a walleye dinner serving at 5:30 p.m. Cost is $11 or two for $20. Ray's Promenaders will dance from 7 to 10 p.m.
The Pinetree Patchworkers will meet at 6:45 p.m. Monday at Lord of Life Lutheran Church. Bonny Hartung of Quilot Haven on Main in Hutchinson will be our speaker.
Backus Legion pig roast and bean bag tournament
BACKUS - The Backus American Legion will host Larry Kostka's 10th Annual All-You-Can-Eat Pig Roast and a bean bag tournament July 19. The pig roast includes BBQ pork on a bun, fresh sweet corn and potato salad for $8 a plate, served from 4:30 p.m. until gone.
The bean bag tournament starts at 2 p.m. with registration any time or on the day of the tournament before the start. There is a $10 entry fee for each two-person team with a 100 percent payout for first through third place teams. Prizes will be determined by the number of entries and supplemented by the legion.
Lamb band returns to Legion
BACKUS - Frankie Lamb's Frankly Country Band, playing classic country, pop, old time and swing, will return to the Backus American Legion from 2 to 6 p.m. July 20.
The dance will be followed by a 4-H Benefit Dinner from 6 p.m. until gone to raise money for prize premiums for 4-Hers participating in the Cass County Fair. The dinner includes Barb's oven fried chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, a vegetable, coffee and dessert for $8.
PEO Chapter CJ
PEO Chapter CJ will meet at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at Kay Robinson's home. Mary Beth MacMillan will be co-hostess. We will initiate three new members.
Baxter Lions Club
The Baxter Lions Club will meet Monday at Camp Vanasek. The board meeting will be at 6 p.m. Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. and the regular meeting will be called to order at 7 p.m.

The class of 1976 of Brainerd High School will be gathering for its 38th class reunion on July 26 at Rock Lake Campground in Pillsbury Forest, Pillager. Minnesota Department of Agriculture Grant Field Day

Brainerd Area Low Vision Support Group
The Brainerd Area Low Vision Support Group will meet 1 p.m. July 21 at Woodland Good Samaritan Village, 200 Buffalo Hills Lane, Brainerd. Carolyn Hegland of the MN Vision Foundation, Bemidji Lions Club, will speak about the latest in national research and development. The Minnesota Lions Vision Foundation has been working to help the blind and visually-impaired since 1960. Through the support of the Minnesota Lions Eye Bank, the collaboration with the University of Minnesota's Department of Ophthalmology and the work collecting and distributing used eyeglasses, the Foundation helps people every day.
