Memory loss support group
CROSBY - A memory loss support group for the caregivers of those with Alzheimer's Disease, the most common form of dementia, will be 3-4 p.m. Wednesday at Heartwood Senior Living Community in Crosby.
Facilitators are Karen Ford and Pam Wachholz who have been trained through the Alzheimer's Association to lead memory loss support groups. Both women have loved ones in their lives with Alzheimer's, a disease that attacks the brain. They also host a group in Brainerd from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. the fourth Wednesday of each month at Home Instead.

Annual meeting of LID
The Crow Wing Lake Improvement District (LID) will hold its annual meeting at 9 a.m. Aug. 23 at the St. Mathias Park Community Center. Crow Wing Lake Residents are invited to come for a complimentary brunch. An election of officers will be held. The Crow Wing Lake Association will hold its fall meeting following adjournment of the LID Meeting. Nominations for the new LID Board may be sent to: Crow Wing Lake Association/LID, P.O. Nisswa Women's Club to meet Thursday
BREEZY POINT - The Nisswa Women's Club will hold its monthly meeting Thursday beginning with a social time at 11:30 a.m. and lunch at noon with the program to follow at Breezy Point Marina II. This meeting will include a Lakes Area Food Shelf Collection. Non-perishable items will be accepted. Monetary donations also are truly appreciated, which stretches the buying power of your dollar.
The program will include "Gangsters of Northern Minnesota in the 1930s" presented by Alan Bohme. Hostesses will be Ann Bertrand, Marilyn Cramer, Anne Pierson, Marilyn Robb and Sandie Tricker. The inspirational will be shared by Eunice Wiebolt.

Well Woman lecture series
A new monthly, free Well Woman lecture series is being brought to the communities of Crosby, Aitkin and Baxter by Cuyuna Regional Medical Center obstetrician/gynecologists and other providers on Tuesdays this year.
The topic for September is "Surviving and Thriving through Menopause" and in October "Until There's a Cure-Breast Cancer Prevention and Treatment" will be discussed. In November the specialists will present "It's a Stall World-Bladder Health" and in January "planning for Pregnancy." February's topic is "Passport to Health, Preventing and Recognizing Gynecologic Cancers" and March's topic is "Pain Down There." In April, "All Stressed Up and Nowhere to Go" will be offered and May's topic is "Love and Laugh through Life-Pelvic Health."
The Crosby talks will be at Heartwood Senior Living Community from 6 to 7 p.m. the first Tuesday of the month; the Aitkin talks from noon-1 p.m. the second Tuesday of the month at Riverwood Healthcare; and the Baxter presentations from 6-7 p.m. the third Tuesday of the month at Cuyuna Regional Medical Center's Baxter Clinic.

The Annual Past Commanders' chicken and corn feed will be served at 5:30 p.m. Thursday. Cost is $8.50 for adults and $5 for kids under 10.

The monthly meeting for the DAV and (DAVA) Crow Wing County Chapter No. 22 will be 7 p.m. Thursday at the Brainerd VFW club . Chapter 22 officers meeting will begin at 6 p.m.
Pet bird owners get together
All area pet bird owners are welcome to a get together 7 p.m. Thursday at the Oak Lawn Township Hall which is located one mile east of the intersection of Highways 18 and 25 in Brainerd. Encore Art Association meeting

Support group for people with brain injuries
EMILY - Martha Murray, a speech language pathologist at Cuyuna Regional Medical Center in Crosby, will be the guest speaker at a support group for people with brain injuries at 7 p.m. Thursday at Emily City Hall. Murray helps adults and children with a variety of speech, voice, language, cognitive-communicative and swallowing disorders. The support group is facilitated by Cuyuna Regional Medical Center Rehabilitation Aide Russ Philstrom, a member of the Brain Injury Alliance of Minnesota. Adopt a cat before we move back
Now through the end of August, all cats at HART will be only $50. This includes all adults and kittens. We currently have an overabundance of cats and would like to find them homes before the move back to the renovated shelter. All adoptable cats are currently located at the old Brainerd High School farm at 12119 State Highway 25.
All HART cats are spay/neutered, feline leukemia tested, current on vaccines, dewormed, microchipped and given a flea/tick preventative. Note: Kittens too small to be spayed/neutered will require an additional $50 deposit which will be refunded after the cat is altered (which HART pays for).
VFW Friday dinner
The VFW Friday dinner will be appetizers serving beginning at 5:30 p.m.
Nisswa Legion activities
The Nisswa Legion will host the Farmers Market from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday. The Friday night dinner will be chicken, fish, ribs served from 5-7 p.m. for $12.95.
Widowed Friends to meet
Widowed Friends will meet at 11 a.m. Monday at the Nisswa Legion for lunch and fellowship.
Senior dances will be from 1-4 p.m. Wednesday at the Brainerd Blue Room with music by John and Virginia; and 3 p.m. Thursday at the Pierz Senior Center with music by Social Security Express.
Firearm safety class
A firearm safety class will begin Sept. 10 at the Brainerd Eagles Club. Class will be from 6-9 p.m. for six weeks on Wednesdays except the first night which will start at 5:30 p.m. Adults are welcome to take the class. Call the Eagles or Paul Laughton to pre-register.
