Kingery Family to perform in Staples
STAPLES — The Kingery Family will present the next concert in the Staples Music in the Park series at 7 p.m. Sunday in the Northern Pacific Park. In case of rain, the concert will be moved to Centennial Auditorium.
Music has always had an influence in the Kingery family’s household. Mike played professional baseball for 17 years and this created many hours for the children to spend in the car, so singing passed the time well.
When the girls were young, Grandma Marion Kingery started giving them piano lessons. She lived nearby and the girls would walk to her house to learn to play the piano. During this time, Grandma started taking the girls along with her to local nursing homes to sing and play music for the elderly.
Instruments were added when Rachel started taking guitar lessons and Anna learned to play the flute. Soon they were playing and singing at churches, music festivals, fairs, community events, funerals, dinners, benefits, business functions, coffee shops, weddings and nursing homes. They play and sing mainly gospel, bluegrass, hymns and a variety of original songs.
The Music in the Park series is funded by the Staples Host Lions Club. The series is organized by the Staples Motley Area Arts Council, with the assistance of the Staples Motley Public Schools and the City of Staples.
