French Bread Stroganoff

1 pound hamburger

1 small onion, chopped fine

1 can cream of mushroom soup

1/2 can water

4 ounce can sliced mushrooms, don’t drain

1 loaf French bread, cut lengthwise

10 cheese slices

3/4 cup sour cream

1 1/2 cup shredded cheese

Chopped green onion on top (optional)

Brown hamburger with onion. Add cream of mushroom soup, water and can of mushrooms with the juice. Pull center pieces of French bread out to make a hollow in each half. Add the pieces to the meat mixture and cook for 20 minutes. Add the sour cream. In the meantime, brown the French bread halves under the broiler. Put sliced cheese in the bottom, then add the meat mixture. Top with shredded cheese and bake until melted. Slice diagonally and serve. Good served with a salad.

Chocolate Crumb Bars

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1/4 teaspoon salt

2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips, divided

14 ounce can sweetened Condensed Milk

1 teaspoon vanilla

1 cup walnut pieces

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 9- by-13 inch pan. Beat butter in large mixer bowl until creamy. Beat in flour, sugar and salt until crumbly. With floured fingers, press two cups crumb mixture onto bottom of prepared baking pan; reserve remaining mixture. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until edges are golden brown. Combine one cup chocolate chips and sweetened condensed milk in small, heavy-duty saucepan. Warm over low heat, stirring until smooth. Stir in vanilla extract. Spread over hot crust. Stir nuts and remaining morsels into reserved crumb mixture; sprinkle over chocolate filling. Bake 25-30 minutes or until center is set. Cool in pan on wire rack.

Bacon Pretzel Rods

1 package pretzel rods 1 package thin sliced bacon, cut in half 1 cups brown sugar

Wrap bacon around pretzel rods. Roll wrapped rods in brown sugar. Put on a cookie sheet lined with Parchment paper. Bake in a 375 degree oven for about 10 minutes or until sugar is melted and bacon lightly browned.

GARY’S TIP: To easily remove burnt-on food from your skillet, simply add a drop or two of dish soap and enough water to cover bottom of pan, and bring to a boil on stove top. Skillet will be much easier to clean.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Making marriage work is like running a farm. You have to start all over again each morning.
