■ Sophia Hotzler

Grade: Senior

Age: 17

Adviser nomination: Hotzler is the principal cello in the Chamber Orchestra for the past two years. She also teaches young cello players, performer in small ensembles and “an outstanding leader in the orchestra.”

Goal this year: “To see the orchestra and my section achieve its best this year.”

Why the cello: “I’ve played it since fifth grade. I’ve always wanted to play a string instrument ever since the Chamber Orchestra came to my elementary school for a concert. My mom told me to play the cello because she thought I’d enjoy it more ... She played the violin.”

Biggest challenge with the cello: “It’s so efficient because you can play really low, which is easy and play really high, which is harder. So staying in tune and perfecting it is the biggest challenge.”

I love it in that I am able to express my emotions in my photos. It’s just like music, expressing your emotions through your music. Then I just love the creative part in taking photos.”

Honorable mention: Ashley Jendro, junior, Brainonian: “Ashley has been a great asset to the yearbook as an editor this year. She has used her technology skills to help make the book look better than ever.”
