■ Karlie Mogensen

Grade: Senior

Age: 17

Art focus: Fifth Street Journal

Adviser nomination: “Choosing Karlie as editor-in-chief was a no-brainer. She’s a terrific writer with an impeccable eye for detail and her work ethic is second to none. She calmly leads our staff, helping out when needed and going above and beyond to produce a quality product. She’ll go onto great things in life and my hope and suspicion is that her writing skills remain in the forefront of whatever career path she chooses.”

Memorable fine arts achievement: Earning first place in the Brainerd School District’s writing contest in eighth and ninth grade for her short stories and being named Fine Arts Student of the Week for Fifth Street Journal in her sophomore year.

Artist most admired: Author Nora Roberts

What do you like to write about: “For Fifth Street, I like to write about the student spotlights and what makes each student unique. Outside of school, I like fiction writing. I hope to make it as an author. My dream job is to be an author and I’d like to be an English teacher. It’d be hard to make it just as an author.”

Best story: “A fiction story that I wrote last year called ‘Captive Heart.’ It’s about a girl who gets kidnapped and about the people she meets along with way. She finds romance. It’s in the editing process now and I hope to send it out this spring.”

What’s your job as editor-in-chief: “The layout and making sure it all comes together. I like being in charge.”

We can count on Yuki to always be ready ahead of schedule.”
