St. Francis Music Center string orchestra presents Christmas concert

LITTLE FALLS — The St. Francis Music Center in Little Falls presents “The Sforzando String Orchestra” and “The Con Brio String Orchestra” in their 10th annual Christmas concert scheduled at 7 p.m. Dec. 14 in Sacred Heart Chapel, St. Francis Convent in Little Falls.

The orchestras are under the direction of Celo V’ec, professional musician and strings instructor at the Music Center.

Over the past 10 years, the string concerts have become a community favorite, all ages are welcome to attend this free concert. Little Falls is one of the few communities nationwide that is able to claim two string orchestras without having string programs in any area schools.

V’ec began teaching at the Music Center with just a few string students. As word of his teaching abilities and passion spread, more and more students came. V’ec then decided he needed an orchestra for his students to play in and then another orchestra. Over the past years over a thousand students have taken string lessons at the Music Center and many of those students grew up playing in the orchestras. Any area string player is welcome to play, whether they take lessons at the center or not. Each of the orchestras re multigenerational and plays exceptionally well.

The concert will feature string artists of all ages playing a wide variety of music. Some of the highlights will be: Bach’s “Brandenburg Concerto No. 5”; Handel’s “Hornpipe from Water Music”; “Night on Bald Mountain” by Mussorgsky; plus some pop hits including Bella’s “Lullaby” from “Twilight”; LeRoy Anderson’s “Sleigh Ride”; and the theme from the Simpsons.

Baskets will be available for free will donations. The String Orchestras are supported by the Minnesota State Arts Board, US Bank, private donations and the Franciscan Sisters of Little Falls.
